“Free movers” are all students who do not participate in an exchange program organised by the University, such as Erasmus, but independently choose their host University and organize their study abroad period. To be able to attend courses at another University and therefore have them recognized within your study plan, you must obtain authorization from your home Faculty and admission from the host University.
To become a "free mover," the following procedures must be followed:
- Contact the foreign University to find out if the course you intend to take is available and to check its cost. Please note that enrolment costs at the host University are entirely the responsibility of the student. In addition, you must have regularly paid all your Sapienza University fees.
- Obtain an acceptance letter from the foreign University for the course you intend to attend. Once you have identified the course you wish to take, contact the reference professor for that course at Sapienza to obtain a formal authorization to attend the course abroad. You must present the acceptance letter from the host University to the professor.
- Note: For the future recognition of the exam, it is important to complete a Learning Agreement before departure, signed by the student, the Italian professor, and the destination University.
- Submit the "free mover" application to the Students Affairs Office once all signatures have been obtained. You must specify which course(s) you intend to take and attach the acceptance letter from the host University (point 2) and the formal authorization from the Sapienza professor (point 3). The office will submit your request to the Academic Board for the Degree Course for official approval of the credits to be acquired abroad.
- Submit the Transcript of Records for all exams completed abroad to the Academic Board for the Degree Course. no later than 20 days after your return. This must be translated into Italian, indicating the corresponding exam at Sapienza and the grade conversion into the Italian grading system (out of 30).
If all the above rules are not strictly followed, the exams taken abroad will not be recognized as valid for inclusion in your academic record by your Home University.
Since this is not an EU program, you must personally organize your stay abroad (including meals, accommodation, and healthcare).
