The Sapienza Statute has recognized the departments as playing a leading role in the structure of the University.
The departments are the primary structures responsible for the organization and management of research and teaching activities.
They have financial resources at their disposal, on the basis of which they define recruitment needs and decide on competition requests and professor appointments. The departmental bodies are the Department Council, the Director, and the Executive Committee.
